An official of the GST Department got booked by the CBI for allegedly demanding the bribe from a businessman for processing his application for bond certificate for exports. The case came into notice when an exporter, from Mumbai, filed a complaint that despite of him (his peon) visiting the GST department (in the Air India building) several times, the application for bond certificate for exports was not getting processed.

As per the FIR, the GST official, Deepak, alleged the exporter to pay Rs.5,000 as illegal gratification to get the application processed. Thereafter, the exporter filed the complaint with the CBI, which later on was registered under the charges of demand of illegal gratification under the anti-corruption act. The CBI had earlier booked an official posted in GSTN council but that was for corruption allegedly during his previous tenure in the service tax department.
