Hopefully it doesn’t come as a surprise, return filing for your taxes for the Financial Year 2015-16 were due in 3 days! 

However, to facilitate payment the filing of returns, the Central Board of Direct taxes (CBDT) has issued an order to extend the due date from 31st July, 2016 to 05th of August, 2016. Taxpayers can now file their returns by the said date without entailing any consequential interest for deferment.

Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said the last date for filing income tax returns has been extended to August 5, 2016, the agency said.

Generally, July 31 is the last date for filing income tax returns for individuals.

Last year, the government extended the last date for filing income tax return to August 31 and further to September 30.
