CBDT mandates disclosure of all Bank Accounts in Income Tax Return forms but puts the forms on hold

CBDT has come with a New Notification regarding disclosure of all Bank Account details .It has a vide Notifications No.41/2015 on 15/04/2015 notifying several changes in ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4S, ITR-V for A.Y 2015-2016. income-tax-return-formCBDT for the first time requires an Assesses to compulsory provide all details regarding the Bank Account details held in India at any time during FY (2014-2015) whether it be a Joint Account including even those Bank Account Details which has been closed. Details to be provided:

  • Number of Bank Accounts held by you at any time during FY(2014-2015) whether it be an open or closed Bank Account
  • IFSC code of Bank Account
  • Name of Bank Account
  • Number of Joint Holders if any
  • Account Number
  • Account Balance as on 31st March 2015 (In case account has been closed mention in Column Account Closed)

Format of Schedule BA of Newly prescribed ITRs which mandates Disclosure of Bank Account as follows:

  The notification also had a requirement of disclosure of all foreign travels and expenses relating to them, which attracted huge uproar from various stakeholders. Hence, for a while the government has decided to put a hold on these forms and has assured that it would revisit the forms and make it much simpler.
