You have to just login in to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in with your login, and click on “My Accounts” -> “View Tax Credit Statement (Form 26AS)”. Afterward, you should select the “assessment year”, confirm your “date of birth” and proceed. 26AS is an excellent tool to verify the tax credit given to the assessee. The taxpayer should verify whether proper tax has been credited to their account. There may be two possibilities of discrepancy: If the incorrect TDS/TCS credit is reflecting in Form 26AS:- In this case, you must request the deductor to file a TDS/TCS statement if it has not been filed and if it is filed, request the deductor to rectify the errors like wrong PAN entered, missed providing your details, mistake in the challan details etc. due to which credit shortfall. If advance tax/self assessment tax paid in the bank is not reflecting in Form 26AS:- It might be happened due to wrong quotation of PAN in the tax payment challan or the bank has made error in entering the PAN while digitizing the challan data or the bank has failed to upload the digitized information to TIN. You can use the challan status enquiry facility provided at TIN website to verify whether a challan bearing the Challan Identification Number (CIN) given in the counterfoil available with you has been uploaded to TIN. If the PAN as seen in this uploaded data is not your PAN you may take up with your Assessing Officer for rectification of PAN. In case the bank has not uploaded the details with respect to your deposit of tax you may take up with your bank so that this information is uploaded. Form 26AS helps in preparing Income Tax Return (ITR) and fill proper tax paid details. Providing accurate tax paid (including TDS) details in income tax return, ensures faster processing of returns.
