E-Filing Date for Liaison Offices of Foreign Companies Extended By CBDTThe last date for E-filing of returns for liaison offices of foreign entities has been extended by four months to September 30 as the appropriate facility has not yet become operational.

As Reported by The Economic Times: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said it has been brought notice that the “appropriate facility” for allowing the E-filing has not yet been operationalised due to technical difficulties.

“… therefore the concerned assessees have not been able to make compliance within the prescribed date (May 30). In consideration of the same, the Board… has decided to extend the due date of filing Form 49C for the financial year 2011-12 up to September 30, 2012”, the CBDT said in its order.

Specified categories of assessees having a liaison office in India, e-filing of income tax return in Form 49C, within 60 days from the end of financial year.

The due date for filing for 2011-12 was May 30. The CBDT further said that for 2011-12, Form 49C can be filed in ‘paper mode’ instead of filing it electronically with digital signatures.
