Good News for those who did not file their Service Tax Return by the due date i.e., 25th April for the half year ending March 31st. The central government by notification has extended the time limit for filing the Service tax return till 29th April, 2016. Extension of due date for filing Service tax return.
WHO HAS TO FILE THE SERVICE TAX RETURN
Every assessee who is registered under service tax has to file the return half yearly irrespective of the fact whether he has provided any service or not. The return has to be filed in Form ST-3.
DUE DATE FOR FILING THE RETURN
Due date for filing the return for half year ending 30th September and March 31st is 25th October and 25th April respectively.
PENALTY FOR DELAY IN FILING THE RETURN
Penalty is levied for late filing of the return.

HOW TO FILE THE ST-3 RETURN
Primarily Physical filing was also permitted but as per Notification No.43/2011 – Service Tax dated 25.08.2011, efiling of Form ST-3 has been made mandatory for all the assesses from 1st October, 2011.
The assessee has to register in aces website.
- A username and password shall be allocated to the assessee.
- ST-3 utility has to be downloaded from the site , filled in and uploaded in xml format.
EXTENSION OF DUE DATE FOR THE PERIOD 1ST OCTOBER,2015 TO 31ST MARCH,2016
Considering the hurdles faced by the assesses in accessing the ACES website , the department of revenue has extended the due date for submission of ST-3 for the period from 1st October 2015 to 31st March 2016 from 25th April, 2016 to 29th April,2016 via ORDER NO 1/2016 – Service Tax, Dated April 25, 2016.
