Refund rejected by the Income Tax Department? Follow these steps

So a month has passed from the due date of filing Income tax return for Individuals. Department has started processing the returns. After the return is processed a notice from income tax department is received which specifies the amount of refund or demand if any raised by the department.

Refund rejected by the Income Tax Department? Follow these steps 

An assessee can check the refund and demand status by just simply logging in e-filing portal. There are 3 simple steps to view Refund/ demand status. The steps are as follows.

 1.  Login to -E-filing website with your User ID, Password, Date of Birth

 2. Go to My account and click “Refund/Demand Status

3. If the refund is rejected it will display the reason for rejection. However if paid the date and mode of payment will be displayed

So, what steps will the assessee take if the refund is rejected? If the refund is rejected the assessee has to request for refund re-issue. The steps to be followed for refund re-issue are as follows.

  • Login to -E-filing website with your User ID,Password, Date of Birth

  • Go to My account and click‘’Refund Re-issue Request”.

  • Enter PAN, AY, CPC communication ref no,Refund sequence no available on the intimation u/s 143(1) and the click on Validate Button.

  • Then select the mode of Refund Reissue.
            1. ECS
            2. By paper (cheque)

  • Select the option ‘Yes’ under “Do you want to update Bank account details” and change the Bank account number, IFSC code.

  • If refund is to be received by cheque select any of the address from the dropdown
        1.ITR Address
       2.PAN address
       3.New Address (enter details in additional fields)

  • Click on ‘’Submit” once details are entered.

    This completes the process of refund re-issue
