Although 25th August was the due-date for filing the GSTR 3B – for the taxpayers who does not has Form TRAN 1 applicable to them, many of the taxpayers were unable to meet the deadline in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts due to confusion over compilation of their business transactions. Post 31st July, 2017, filing of all the monthly GST returns (by 25th) is mandatory after paying off the taxes by 20th of the month stating the business transactions of previous month.

Traders are still in the confusion in understanding the GST laws and procedures due to the lack o the computer knowledge. This is one of the common reasons for the delay in filing the Returns. Chartered accountants and tax consultants are also unable to extend helping hand to the traders with the lack of sufficient infrastructure to handle extra work.

To improve the tax collection and clarify doubts of traders, the department established GST facilitation centres in several places including Vizianagaram, Bobbili, Parvatipuram, Srikakulam, Tekkali, Palasa and other places.

Joint Commissioner of the department N. Srinivasa Rao, Deputy Commissioner P.Satyakumar (Intelligence wing), Assistant Commissioner T. Lalita (West Division-Vizianagaram) and Srikakulam head G. Ranimohan and others have been touring several places to create awareness among the representatives of shops and establishments over the filing of GST returns.

Additional staffs are posted in facilitation centres to extend the atmost help to the traders in compying with the GST Rules correctly and timely. One of the resons behind the late payment of taxes and filing of returns is also said to be the frequest holidays of the banks.

Some of the traders are also likely to surrender their license as they come under below Rs.20 Lakhs category as they decided not to file GST returns. The said traders need to understand the procedure and online filing within the deadline or else they shall land up paying a penalty of Rs.100 per day for delay in filing the GST returns.
