The Advisory Group to the Law Review Committee of GST Council will meet here tomorrow to discuss the proposed amendments in rules and make the new tax regime easy to adopt by traders.

In a statement, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said the Group “will specifically discuss the proposed amendments in GST Law and Rules to make it more simplified and rationalised and easy to adopt by the traders”.

The Group shall discus possible changes in GST Law and its Rules and will submit its recommendations to the Law Review Committee by November 30.

Six prominent persons from different fields, including CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal, have been appointed as members of the Group. Retired Chief Commissioner of Central Board of Direct Taxes Gautam Ray has been named the Convenor.

Participating in a goods and services tax (GST) Darbaar held today at the BJP Headquarters here, “most of the traders stated that framing of 28 per cent tax slab was not at all required in a country like India and moreover the items placed under this slab have been done purely in an arbitrary manner”, CAIT said.

The traders’ body observed that the 28 per cent tax slab should be restricted only to luxury and negative goods.
