1. In a monsoon bonanza for consumers, the GST Council today cut tax rates on several general-use items such as TV, washing machine
and refrigerators. Not just that, conceding to a year-long demand, the Council has now put sanitary napkins under the exempted category. The new rates would come into effect from July 27

2. iPhones Face Ban In India Over DND App in the next 6 months. Apple has already indicated that they may take a legal course if this ‘derecognition’ actually takes place. TRAI has just released The Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation, 2018, and sought public opinions on the “proposed to curb the problem of unsolicited commercial communication,”.

3. NPCI said that transactions, where the payer and the payee account are actually the same, will be blocked from August 1. All such transactions will be blocked in the UPI central system.

4. Treebo Hands Out Pink Slips To 10% Of Its Workforce. Employees have been offered two months’ salary as a severance package. The layoffs are in line with Treebo’s efforts to double down on its technology products and processes while cutting costs

5. E-commerce Companies May Face Audit On GST Rate Cuts. The tax authorities want to check whether these companies have passed on cuts in goods and services tax (GST) rates to consumers.

6. Troubled Ecommerce Company Snapdeal Claims It Became Cash Flow Positive In June – In a letter to the Snapdeal “family”, founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal shared this.

7. MakeMyTrip Invests In Travel Tech Company Bitla Software – aims to utilise Bitla Software’s solutions for the bus and hotel supplier ecosystem. Launched in 2007, Bitla Software has a proprietary software HolidaySimply, which is said to be an innovative tour operator.

8. POPxo Ventures Into Ecommerce With Private Label Products – plans to offer well-priced, stylish products that will appeal to millennial women. Priyanka Gill founded POPxo in March 2014 as a blog catering to the Indian diaspora.

9. Govt Directs Media Platforms To Take Prompt Action Against Fake Messages. The Centre has asked media platforms to work with Indian govt officials to receive grievances in real time. Social media platforms have to ensure they don’t promote hatred, terrorism, money laundering, mob violence etc.

10. Amid Shutdown News, eBay.in Looks To Acquire ShopClues For India relaunch.

11. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on July 26, said that India wants to work with the BRICS nations on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and called for sharing the best practices and policies in the area. Modi also said that technological innovations can help enhance service delivery and productivity levels.
