1. Paytm Looks To Diversify And Raise Funds For New Retail Model-The new model will equip shopkeepers with technology, logistics, and marketing capabilities. Renu Satti will be leading the charge as the COO of the new model.

2. Status change in Indian IT as HCL Technologies overtakes Wipro Limited to become third largest IT firm  – HCL Technologies has been closing in on Wipro for a couple of quarters now with an aggressive growth strategy.

3. Swiggy Looks To Become King Of Hyperlocal Delivery – The service is expected to be rolled out around October-November across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Swiggy had recently joined the Unicorn club with $210 Mn funding.

4. RajMegh To Offer Free Cloud Services For Startups, Cheaper-Than-Market Prices To Govts And Corporates – services will be enabled through Bhamashah Data Centre, the first Tier IV data centre in India. Startups registered under the state’s iStart programme will be able to access RajMegh services for free. About 750 startups are registered under the iStart programme, of which over 100 are being incubated at present.

6. CM Raje Launches Digital-First Initiatives For The Police, People, And Forests At Bikaner Digifest – Rajasthan to get seven new high-tech Abhay Command Centres for better policing – iStart nest to incubate startups in Kota and Jodhpur as well.

7. Govt Looks To Support Indian Companies Through Draft E-commerce Policy – aims to ensure a level playing field for local businesses doing digital trade in India.

8. Govt Launches e-Aksharayan Software To Turn Scanned Documents Into Editable Text – e-Aksharayan is a desktop software for converting any scanned or printed Indian language documents into fully editable text. Ajay Prakash Sawhney, secretary, MeitY, also pitched for an ‘India language stack’.

9. Delhi HC Issues Notice To The Centre, Amazon And Flipkart For ‘Violating’ FDI Norms – The notice was issued in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by NGO Telecom Watchdog. The petition said that the duo had violated FDI norms and circumvented them by routing popular products at cheaper prices through proxy controlled sellers.

10. ‘Shopify’ For Services Omnify Joins Stripe Partner Programme In India. Launched in 2016, Omnify has now more than 5K businesses using their platform to sell and manage their services online in more than 50 countries. Stripe, on the other hand, is a US-based technology company which allows individuals and businesses to receive payments over the Internet with operations in more than 25 countries.

11. Myntra Acquires Pretr To Strengthen Its Omnichannel Presence – plans to forge omnichannel partnerships with brands on its platform.

12. After Airtel, Paytm Payments Bank Gets Into Trouble With RBI. Paytm Payments Bank stopped enrolling new customers on June 20 following an audit by RBI. RBI noted that Paytm should have better security mechanisms to store customer data.

13. Amazon And Walmart May Seek US Intervention On Indian Ecommerce Policy – feel the draft ecommerce policy is “heavily tilted” against foreign firms.

14. ‘UPI Transactions Drop In July, PhonePe Claims Top Slot With 100 Mn Payments. PhonePe has claimed the top spot and said that they have a 40% share of the market. The fintech startup has recently started blocking any UPI transactions where the sender and receiver bank account numbers are the same.

15. Swiggy Acquires On-demand Delivery Platform Scootsy. Scootsy will continue as an independent app. The development came in a few weeks after Swiggy secured $210 Mn in a Series G funding led by existing investor Naspers and new investor DST Global.

16. 40% Online Listed Restaurants Fail To Comply With FSSAI Regulations. After receiving consumer complaints of sub-standard food being served through ecommerce platforms, FSSAI had given July 31 deadline to these companies.
